It is not easy to become a professional sommeliers, unless one gives exams and tests. There is an institute like the court of master sommeliers established in 1977, which looks after the course and certification. There is a guild of master sommeliers also supporting the upcoming candidates in this knowledge based profession. They teach, trains, and certify the candidates like wine instructors, wine judges. Candidate first have to go through introductory course, then appear for the exam which have certificate, after passing it continue education till advanced course and finally pass the master sommeliers exam. There are currently 171 master sommeliers worldwide and in USA alone there are 74 active Sommeliers.
The course contains recommending drinks, pairing menu with wine, selecting glasses, varieties of regions, laws and regulations, process of making liqueurs, beers and wine, proper storage procedures. There are courses like advanced wine & food pairing, regional series comprising France, Italy, then blind tasting, wine business and many more. It is only after completing the diploma IV, which allows to becoming a professional wine educator. sommeliers extend service and hospitality to each quests.
